Principles Of Christian Decision Making

Every week, every day, in fact almost every moment we are faced with decisions. What determines whether we are successful or not is the principles we use in our Christian decision-making process.

Some decisions are small like: Am I going to get up out of bed?

Some are large like ones in employment, where we live or should we move.

Some are joyous ones like: Shall I ask this person to marry me. And some are painfully tragic ones like deciding there is no hope for a marriage.

Because of this, it is essential to know how to make good decisions and to have a fundamental decision-making process based upon your Christian faith.

I do not come to you like some expert on making good or ethical decisions. I have made more bad choices in my life I have made the right choices.

However, in those failures, and in the few successes, I have learned some lessons that I have found true. I want to share a few with you.

How to Make Good Decisions in Life

The easy way out rarely is an easy way. When we look to escape, look to run, look to get out, more times than not, we end up causing more problems for ourselves than we fix.

As a young man, my father used to tell me all the time, “Can’t never did anything.” As a kid, I had no clue what he was talking about, but as an adult, I understand totally!

If you say you can’t, you will never overcome. The problem is not that you can’t. It is that you won’t. It is a matter of will, not ability.

Finally, in our Christian decision-making process, our thought life plays a significant role. If you continue to think about the negative, you will make a choice based on problems, not solutions, but if you think about the positive, you will find a solution to the problem.

I like to find solutions, not react to problems.

Jesus gives us a perfect example of this when He rebuked Peter for his thinking. Mark 8:33 Jesus turned and looked at his disciples. He scolded Peter. “Get behind me, Satan!” he said. “You are not thinking about the things of God. Instead, you are thinking about human things.”

Jesus had his eyes on humanities need; Peter had his eyes on his loss.

Making the right decision means you have to evaluate what you are doing.

So in making sound and ethical decisions, we should take a look at whether or not we are trying to run away from a problem.

If you are, then you are at risk of making a bad decision. If you are not making any decision, then you are making a bad choice.

The reason I say that is because if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice. It is inevitably the wrong choice.

Finally, you need to evaluate whether or not your decision is an ethical one.

It is not enough to make decisions that benefit us. We must ask what is this decision going to do to affect others in our life?

We have to make good life decisions.

Our decisions need to be beneficial to those in our lives otherwise they won’t be there very long.
