Healed By Faith – 3 Myths Taught By Faith Healers

Faith Healing Or Divine Healing?

I do not believe people are healed by faith. I believe in divine healing.

There are many TV preachers and evangelists and even some churches that teach that whether or not you are healed is a direct result of whether you have faith or not.
Is that what the Bible teaches?

There are many instances in the Bible where God healed regardless of a person’s faith, and even sometimes against their will when you tie people who were sick due to demon possession.

The truth is that God is a healer. (Ex. 15:26) The problem lies in the belief that God is a healer now at the initiative of our faith.

Healing is at the initiative of God because God is the healer, not because we are healed by faith.

3 Myths Taught By Those Who Believe You Are Healed By Faith

Myth #1 If You Believe, You Receive

Here we have a fact mixed with myth. It is not what we believe, but in whom we believe.
Those that teach faith healing teach you to believe in your faith. They say things like “if you believe” or “if you confess” or “if you speak.” It is always based on what and not on whom. So it is just “I believe” not “I believe in Jesus.

Confidence in our faith is just another way of having confidence in ourselves. It is based on us and not based on our relationship with Jesus.

The Bible says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) Now many people read this and assume that when it talks of the word of God it is talking about the Bible.

However, they forget that when this passage was written, the N.T. was not completed yet nor was the printing press invented.

Most of the population was illiterate and could not read nor was the Bible available for them to read even if they could learn. It was hand copied and kept in synagogues and libraries and not open for just anyone to get ahold of.

What the Apostle Paul was talking about was Jesus. John called Jesus the word of God in John 1.

So faith comes by hearing. Hearing what? The voice of God. Moreover, the ability to hear comes from where? The word of God, or Jesus.

So faith comes at the initiation of God and not our faith. Faith does not heal us.

Myth #2 If You Stand Fast In Your Faith You Will Be Healed In Time

Many faith healers teach that if you stand fast in your faith, you will be healed in time. Once again they substitute faith or healing for Jesus. They use the passage in Hebrews 10:23 to justify this belief. Let’s take a look at this passage in context.

Hebrews 10:23
19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.

This passage is not talking about holding fast to our faith, but instead is talking about having faith in the relationship we have been given with God Almighty.

We are given the promise of a relationship. The promise that we can come to God with our needs. The promise that we are welcome to draw near to God.

It is not about holding fast to our faith or being healed by faith. It is talking about holding fast to God himself!

So what is faith?

It is more than believing in your heart that God heals. The truth is that God is the God who heals.

Faith is trusting the God who heals.

Faith is radical, absolute surrender to the God who heals.

Faith is not holding on for your healing but holding on to the God who can do the impossible.

If your trust is in God who heals, then when He heals you is secondary to belonging to the Healer.

Myth #3 Confession Brings Healing

Many faith healers teach that all you need to do is confess you are healed, and faith will heal you.

I know many dear saints who have died confessing their healing, and I have known many other dear people who have been hurt by churches and preachers because people who judge them based on their so-called confession.

Positive confession does not affect healing. If that were true, anyone who believes in mind-over-matter mental exercises could heal people. Only Jesus heals.

Our confession should be in Him, not in being healed now.

Jesus sternly warned:

“‘Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven'” (Matt. 10:32-33).

When we are confessing our healing and not confessing the author of that healing, then we are in fact robbing Him of His rightful place.

It’s time we throw out the lies that cloud the truth about faith and healing.

It’s time we embrace the scriptural truths that shatter shallow myths and bring us the freedom to trust God confidently.

Jesus healed people because He had compassion on them.

He healed them because He loved them.

He healed them because He showed them mercy.

He healed them because He was full of grace.

If you are seeking Him for healing, then receive it because of His love for you. Receive it because of His mercy. Receive it because of His compassion, not because you think you are earning it with your modicum of faith.
