Nothing but the Blood of Jesus
During every great revival that has happened in Christendom there has been an increased awareness and understanding of the blood of Christ and it's importance,
And during every time that faith has waned and hearts have grown cold, there has been a diminished emphasis and teaching on the blood of Christ.
In this blood of Jesus sermon I hope to explain to you the importance of the blood of Jesus and why it is integral to the Christian faith.
Up until the time of Jesus, the only way that a person could be forgiven was on the Day of Atonement when they would bring an animal for sacrifice.
Now I know that this sounds bloody to today's society, but 2000 years ago it was not uncommon.
Even today animals are sacrificed for us in the name of food.
Hamburger and Chicken do not come from the grocery store.
There is power in blood.
If you don't believe me just drain yourself of 4 pints and see what happens to you.
You will die!
It was the blood sacrifice that was offered to God that cleansed a person from sin for another year.
But it was not a long term solution. The blood of bulls and goats could not eternally cleanse us from our sins. That is why something else was needed.
When Jesus willingly went to the cross as an innocent and sinless man, the eternal solution for sin was made. Just as Paul said in Romans 5,
18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Just as sin entered the world through one man, the price for sin was paid by one man. The sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross was that payment.
When we stop teaching and understanding the price that was paid for our salvation, then salvation becomes cheap and worthless.
I believe that their spiritual growth has been stunted because of their lack of understanding of what Jesus truly did.
The number one benefit and the one that we all should be eternally grateful for is the fact that the blood of Christ is what caused us to be forgiven.
If it were not for the precious blood of Jesus, we would not be able to stand before God today and have a personal relationship with Him.
In 1 John 1:7 it says,
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Not only does it forgive us our sins, but it also cleanses us from the stain of that sin.
In other words, it removes the spot that was on our souls because of what we had done.
It gives us a true new beginning and fresh start.
When the blood of Jesus is applied to your life, then you are made as fresh as a newborn babe or a blanket of fresh snow.
Another thing that the blood of Christ provides is our entrance into the presence of God.
When we pray, we are not just praying to the air. We are entering into the presence of God.
We are able to boldly go before the throne of grace because of the blood of Christ.
You are able to walk up to your heavenly Father and sit on His lap and tell Him everything that is on your heart because of the blood of Jesus.
Your enjoyment of the presence of God in your life was bought at with the price of Christ's sacrifice. In Ephesians chapter 2 it says,
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
So take a moment and thank God for the blood of Jesus and the sacrifice that was made on Calvary's cross.
When the soldier pierced Him in His side and His blood flowed to the ground, it was for you.
Hebrews 12:24 (NKJV)
24 to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better things than that of Abel.
IF you are born again and have had the blood applied to your life, then that blood speaks of better things for you.
Just like in DNA tests where blood can speak of heritage, genetics, ect. So too does the blood of Jesus speak of your spiritual heritage, spiritual DNA, and of your future.
In context, the writer of Hebrews is speaking of the blood speaking better things in the midst of people being shaken. (Hebrews 12:27) It speaks that you will not be shaken when trials and tribulations come your way. It speaks of when the world is upside down, you will still be right side up.
There truly is power in the blood!
